The Science Behind Formula SF722®

Fatty acids have been used for centuries to help maintain a healthy balance of the microorganisms that normally live in the gastrointestinal tract.* In the last 50 years, fatty acids have demonstrated effectiveness in supporting a healthy gut flora in a number of studies.* Undecylenic acid (10-undecenoic acid) is an eleven-carbon, monounsaturated fatty acid occurring naturally in the body’s perspiration.
Undecylenic acid inhibits the conversion of yeast to its hyphal form, making it less pathogenic.* Research suggests that undecylenic acid could interfere with fatty acid biosynthesis, thus inhibiting germ tube (hyphae) formation. Fatty acids such as undecylenic acid also might disrupt the pH of the yeast cell cytoplasm.
A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association reported a direct correlation between the growth of yeast in the digestive tract and vaginal yeast in the 98 women evaluated.
